Image via Flickr: Steve Snodgrass Busy SLC Eateries and Restaurants You Wish Had a Second Location (and Do!) By AmyOliver 06/21/2016 Salt Lake City News Salt Lake Cit's favorite restaurants and eateries are often busy to the point you'll wait around for hours (yes, hours) just to get in the door. But if you're craving some of the most popular food in town, you may not have to wait...if you're willing to try out a second, third, or even fourth location that you didn't know about. The Best Mexican Food in Utah: Red Iguana in Salt Lake City Image via Flickr: vxla When you see the line of people stretching down North Temple just outside of Downtown Salt Lake City, you know you've arrived. Red Iguana is hailed as the best Mexican food in Salt Lake City, and often the best Mexican food in Utah. And in a city that loves its Mexican food, that makes this restaurant one busy joint, especially since it does not accept reservations. Visitors to this restaurant often wait 2 hours to get a table.Red Iguana, 736 W. North TempleMonday - Thursday, 11am - 10pmFriday, 11am - 11pmSaturday, 10am- 11pmSunday, 10am - 9pm If the Line is Too Long (or for any reason) Check Out: Red Iguana 2 in Salt Lake City Red Iguana 2 is home to the same great food and same awesome atmosphere as the original location. The major difference is the wait: there usually isn't one. If you're craving enchiladas and mole but don't want to wait in the sun or the snow, head down the street and around the corner (no, really) to cross the border (or just the train tracks) and hit up la iguana roja numero dos. Get it Fast Food Style at Taste of Red Iguana in Salt Lake City If you just can't wait for the full fare at Red Iguana or Red Iguana 2, too, or you really need to eat on the go, try the food court version of the restaurant inside the City Creek Center Mall. The menu is smaller, and the lines are still long, but you can count on your mole in a hurry. Yes there is pie under all that fresh whipped cream! :-) pic.twitter.com/WurH9y8a— Penny Ann's Cafe (@pennyannscafe) July 16, 2012 When the quaint cafe, Penny Ann's, opened just outside of Downtown Salt Lake City in 2011, it instantly became a breakfast hotspot for the weekend, for business people, and for just about everybody else. Considered to be the "Home of the Heavenly Hotcakes" and a winner of multiple foodie awards, the tiny space is constantly overrun with patrons, who may wait up to an hour or more for the chance to feast on hotcakes, huge omelets, crisp bacon, flavorful french toast (with peanut butter, if you ask!), a full lunch menu, or even a slice of scrumptious pie. Penny Ann's Cafe, 1810 S. Main StreetMonday - Sunday, 7am – 2:30pm Live at the Other End of the Valley? Have Your Cake and Eat it, Too: Penny Ann's Cafe in Draper The hourlong wait for breakfast in Salt Lake City might seem a bit long, especially if you're driving from the other end of the Valley and come to find this restaurant doesn't take reservations. But never fear. You can have your cake (or pie, rather) and eat it, too, without even leaving the Draper area. In response to their significant growth, Penny Ann's Cafe opened a second location in Draper in 2014. Small breweries like Red Rock Brewing Co., have popped up all over Utah, and their popularity has spawned second, and even third locations to meet the demand for their awesome craft beer, excellent chef-driven menus, and laid back atmospheres reminiscent of someplace else. The brewery opened first in 1994, and was quickly followed by a restaurant in the busy Downtown "eating district". Don't forget that relaxing with a beer at this restaurant still means following Utah state liquor laws, and you can't imbibe until after 11am. Go Midvalley for Red Rock in Murray Red Rock Brewing Co. is pretty popular in Downtown Salt Lake City, and that can mean a long wait just to find appropriate parking. But a secondary location at the Fashion Place Mall offers plenty of parking, and a chance to shop before or after you dine. This location also frequently hosts get-togethers like Plant Nite and Paint Nite so you can enjoy good food, fun desserts, and excellent craft beer with friends while you bring out your inner artiste. The menu may slightly differ in some ways from the menus in the Valley to meet the needs of the locals and tourists with a more "refined" taste, but the food is great and the beer remains. Located in the Redstone Center, you can visit the restaurant, take in a show, and visit multiple cute local shops and major retailers. Red Rock Junction Restaurant and Brew Pub, 1640 W. And when you're craving hot fudge brownie sundaes or a black & tan, Taylorsville doesn't seem too far to drive to get to the home location of this ice cream parlor and eatery. Especially during Summer months, the lines can get long, and the wait can seem unbearable for the impatient ice cream aficionado. It's a wonder more people haven't figured out that there are multiple Leatherby's locations throughout Utah (and even three locations in California if you're traveling and get a craving).
