10 Reasons Why New Mexico is a Great State for Gay Marriage

On December 19, the New Mexico Supreme Court ruled that Gay Marriage is legal in the state. New Mexico is now the 17th State of the US to have that ruling, but we knew a long time ago that it was a great state for everyone to get married in, and here's why.

Whether you want to propose in one or have the ceremony in one, hot air balloons are unique, and New Mexico has them in abundance. Plus they come in almost every color and shape you can think of. Rainbow balloon marriage, anyone?

Whether you're taking the Tram to the peak or you like them as a backdrop, the Sandias can't be beat for a location wedding.

Who doesn't want to get married with the dazzling backdrop of a sunset? Due to the lack of skyscrapers and giant expanse of sky, New Mexico sunsets are some of the best in the country.

Many an outdoor wedding has been ruined by a rainy forecast the day of. But in New Mexico, there's a saying: "Don't like the weather? Just wait 10 minutes." Plus, rainbows. Need I say more?

A beautiful location for you and your loved ones, as long as there are no missile tests happening (but they give warning for those weeks in advance).

Nothing brings people together like a good meal. And green chile doesn't discriminate: no matter your sexual orientation, if you get the right chile, everyone will cry at your wedding in the best way.

As a blue state in the last two elections and with two colleges of almost 30,000 students each, NM is a state that will welcome you and your partner with open arms.

A soundstage like the one pictured above isn't an uncommon sight in New Mexico these days, and if you're planning to get married and stay here, it'd be a good place to get your feet wet if you're interested in work either in front of or behind the camera.

If your plans post-marriage include adopting kids, New Mexico is a great place to be. Since 2009, the state has displayed an excellent track record when it comes to allowing the adoption of children by same-sex couples.

You love your partner, you've talked about getting married, and now this great state acknowledges that right and all the privileges that go with it (taxes, visitation in the hospital, shared health insurance, etc). And what better place to start the next chapter of your lives together than in the Land of Enchantment?
